Representations - 3 Images

today in media our class was shown three photos and we where told to do a representation on all three photos.
the first photo we where shown was this man, my first assumptions on this image where that he was a tramp who also was most probably unemployed, i came to this suggestion because of the clothes he was wearing, his patched up trousers and cigarette he was smoking instantly made me believe that he was homeless. another thing which added to my impression was the people in the background, they all looked smart and well presented compared to the man.

however after this task when we went studied the photo in more detail our teacher Mr. Ford showed us that his trousers where actually perfectly sewed and weren't dirty at all, this showed us that the man wanted too dress like this, he also pointed out the designer shoes he was wearing, which from the photo didn't look anything special, but infact they are designer shoes which are over £200. after this we where told this man was Doug Bihlmaier, who is head of ralph lauren vintage. he is known for all the interior design inside the shops and is very important in that business.

secondly we where shown a photo of this man, from looking at this image my initial thoughts where the man was smart. His clothing is formal and he doesn't have any facial hair which could suggest he looks after himself well by staying tidy, he doesn't have scruffy hair its neat which also adds to my impression. Overall this man looked genuine and trustworthy.

however when we finished representating him are teacher told us who this man really is, his name was Ted Bundy, a mass serial killer who have potentially accounted for over 50 murders, this man was executed because of his sick ways. this was a complete shock to me because i completely got the wrong idea, his looks where used to fool women into liking him before he killed them.

Finally our class was shown a photo of this women here, instantly i was drawn to the conclusion this women was weird and odd, i thought this because of the unusual clothing she had on, she had a variety of different colours which in my opinion didn't match at all. she was also in a secluded environment which made her look out of place. Overall she just looked strange and out of the norm.

After this we where told who this woman was, her name was Anna Piaggi and shed recently died of old age, she was italian and a really good fashion designer, she was friends with all sorts of famous fashion artist, this was a big shock because she looked so strange to me.

This task has shown me that my initial thoughts where completely wrong. it shows how quickly i instantly made an opinion on the people whenever however i was completely wrong, it also shows we shouldn't stereotype people straight away because like this case, we could most probably be wrong. i have found this task very interesting aswell.
